What is a fluency Disorder?

Fluency is the smoothness in our speech. A fluency disorder is a disruption of the fluency in our speech. This can look like atypical rate of speech, differences in speech rhythm and most commonly, disfluencies. Disfluencies can be the repetition of sounds, syllables, words and phrases. In addition, disfluencies can look like blocks or prolongation. Stuttering is the most commonly named fluency disorder. People who stutter are reported to have psychological, emotional, occupational and social impacts to their daily life.
